A fully functioning drainage system is something which is crucial to any property, no matter its size or purpose.
Foul Sewer
This is a type of sewer which only accepts the flow of foul sewage through its system.
Inspection Chamber
The inspection chamber is the structure within a drainage system which has no personnel access, instead offering access to pieces of equipment and machinery which are operated remotely from ground level to carry out any drain inspections.
Jetting
This is when a blockage is cleared through the use of high pressure jets of water. The process of jetting clears these blockages within the attached pipes using this high pressure from a hose reel that tends to be attached to a high pressure jetting machines which will be mounted on a vehicle.
Rodding Eye
A rodding eye is a vertical pipe that has a curved junction which sits below ground with a drain or sewer system. There is access to these pipes via a small, oval-shaped cover which is provided at ground level, allowing them to be reached in the event of a blockage within the pipe.
Septic Tank
Usually located below the ground, septic tanks contain sewage which is to be decomposed through exposure to anaerobic bacteria. Septic tanks tend to be separated from public sewers.
Drain Scale
In areas of hard water, many problems can be caused by the buildup of scale, a natural mineral deposit which builds up inside drainage pipes due to exposure to the minerals within the hard water itself. Though in many cases, the scale is not an issue in small amounts, if it is allowed to build up it can completely block pipes. Mostly, though, scale simply creates a rough surface inside the pipe, trapping bits of debris and thus causing a blockage.
Drain Descaling
If people have issues with their drain, it is common for them to have the blockage removed but for the problem to keep reoccurring. Indeed without a long-term solution, the buildup will continue between cleans using effective methods such as jetting, as the hard edges and ridges created by the scale will not be resolved through simple cleaning. Instead, it is important to use a specialist descaling machine which will completely descale the area within the pipe that is suffering blockages and scale buildup.
Culvert
A culvert is a channel or pipeline that is covered over. The channel only qualifies as a culvert if it is wider than 900mm, according to the Highway Agency.
